This policy explains what Dash Studio (“the app”) does with information about you. It is written from how the app is built. koykstudio publishes the app; “we” and “us” below means koykstudio.

The short version

  • Some information leaves your device so the app can work. The table below lists all of it, why, and who receives it.
  • You don’t need an account to use the app.
  • The app shows no ads.
  • The app does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
  • We don’t sell your personal information.

Who we are

Dash Studio is made and published by koykstudio, an independent app studio. You can reach us at support@koykstudio.com.

What stays on your device

Photos you pick, car cut-outs, imported sounds, designs and the greeting text are stored in the app's shared container on the iPhone until you change or delete them, or delete the app.

  • Widget designs, layouts, themes, the greeting name and car details (including the number plate text) are stored in the App Group container shared by the app and its widgets.
  • Car photos are cut out with Apple Vision on the iPhone; photos are chosen with the system photo picker, so the app only sees the ones you pick.
  • Imported sounds are trimmed to 15 seconds and converted on the iPhone.
  • The spoken greeting uses the iPhone's built-in voices.
  • The Next Event widget reads the calendar on the iPhone; events aren't sent anywhere.
  • Labs live speed (off by default): speed, trip time, distance and top speed are worked out on the iPhone from GPS and shown in a Live Activity. The route isn't saved; the last trip's totals and the last driving country stay on the iPhone.
  • Feature-use counts (for example "widget confirmed in car") are kept on the iPhone only.

Permissions the app asks for

iOS asks for your permission before the app can use these. You can change your answer at any time in the Settings app.

Information that leaves your device

InformationWhyWho receives itLinked to your identity?
Customer support (email address, message and diagnostics)Answer your question. Only if you choose to email support; the draft includes the app and iOS version, whether CarPlay is connected, and your car's brand if you picked one, and you can edit it before sending.koykstudio (support email)Yes

We don’t use this information to identify you, and we don’t combine it with information from other companies.

Services the app connects to

To work, the app requests information from these services. Like any internet request, each one reveals your device’s IP address to the service it contacts.

  • Apple WeatherKit: The coordinates of the place set for the weather widget (a searched city, or your location at about 1 km accuracy). The widget asks about every 30 minutes; there's no user ID.
  • Apple MapKit: The coordinates of the chosen place to draw the city map art, the city name you type in search, and your approximate location to name your city when you tap "Use my location".
  • Apple geocoder (Labs live speed): One location per trip, to find which country you're driving in and pick mph or km/h.
  • Apple App Store (StoreKit 2): Purchases, restores and the free trial, handled by Apple with your Apple Account.

Location

Optional. "Use my location" (about 1 km accuracy) sets the weather and city map widgets; the place is saved on the iPhone and its coordinates go to Apple's WeatherKit and MapKit. Labs live speed (off by default) uses precise location in the background during a drive and sends one location per trip to Apple's geocoder to pick mph or km/h. Nothing goes to the studio.

Location information leaves your device only as described in this policy.

Purchases

Purchases are made through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never see your payment card or Apple Account details. The app checks with Apple which purchases you made so it can unlock them.

Crash reports and statistics from Apple

If you agreed to share analytics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple gives us crash reports and statistics that don’t identify you. You can change this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. Apple’s handling of this data is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.

Tracking and advertising

The app does not track you, as Apple defines tracking: it does not link information from the app with information from other companies’ apps, websites or data brokers. It shows no advertising.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

How long information is kept

On the iPhone until you change or delete it, or delete the app; cached weather is dropped after a day. The studio runs no server. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to answer.

Your choices and rights

  • Deleting the app deletes the information it stores on your device.
  • Depending on where you live (for example California and other US states), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We don’t sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • We will answer requests within the time the law requires and won’t treat you differently for asking.

Make a request on our data request page, or email support@koykstudio.com.

Security

We keep what the app handles to the minimum it needs and rely on the security built into iOS. No method is perfectly secure, but we take care to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

If the app’s handling of information changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app.
