Flight SpeedoOffline inflight GPS tracker
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Flight Speedo (“the app”) does with information about you. It is written from how the app is built. koykstudio publishes the app; “we” and “us” below means koykstudio.
The short version
- We don’t receive personal information from the app. What you create in it stays on your device unless you choose to share it.
- You don’t need an account to use the app.
- The app shows no ads.
- The app does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- We don’t sell your personal information.
Who we are
Flight Speedo is made and published by koykstudio, an independent app studio. You can reach us at support@koykstudio.com.
What stays on your device
The flight log (route, dates, recorded GPS track, top speed, highest altitude, countries) and the current flight stay on the iPhone. A flight card image is made on the phone and leaves it only when the user taps Share.
- GPS fixes (position, speed, altitude, heading) are read from Core Location and processed on the iPhone to show speed, progress, time left and what's below; this works in airplane mode.
- When there is no GPS fix, the position is estimated on the iPhone from the take-off time and a typical flight profile.
- Airports, places, the base map and time zones are bundled with the app; the route guide, 'what's below', sun times and arrival details are computed on the iPhone.
- 'Airports near me' takes one location reading at about 1 km accuracy and compares it with the bundled airport list on the iPhone.
- The current flight (JSON file), the flight log (SwiftData) and each flight's recorded GPS track (CSV in the app's Documents folder) are stored only on the iPhone.
- Pro sight alerts are local notifications scheduled on the iPhone, and the Live Activity is updated by the app itself.
- Purchases are verified on the iPhone with StoreKit 2; no receipt server.
Permissions the app asks for
iOS asks for your permission before the app can use these. You can change your answer at any time in the Settings app.
| Permission | What it’s used for | Needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Location (while using the app) | Shows your speed, altitude and progress during the flight, and suggests nearby airports. Asked when the flight starts or when you tap 'Airports near me'. Without it the app uses the take-off-time estimate. | Optional |
| Location (always) | Declared ('Keeps your flight progress up to date while the phone is locked'), but the code only requests While Using and keeps updates running in the background through the location background mode and CLBackgroundActivitySession. | Optional |
| Background location updates | Keeps GPS running during a flight while the phone is locked, with the blue location indicator shown. Stops when the flight ends. | Optional |
| Notifications | Pro: a local alert about 5 minutes before a sight on your side of the plane. Asked only when the user turns on 'Alert me before sights'. | Optional |
| Live Activities | Pro: speed, percent done and time left on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. The user can turn Live Activities off in Settings. | Optional |
| WeatherKit (entitlement) | Pro: the forecast at the destination for the landing time, fetched at the gate and saved with the flight. | Optional |
Information that leaves your device
The app does not send personal information to us. It doesn’t use analytics, advertising or crash-reporting services from other companies.
Services the app connects to
To work, the app requests information from these services. Like any internet request, each one reveals your device’s IP address to the service it contacts.
- Apple WeatherKit: The destination airport's coordinates (not the user's location), for the landing-time forecast; also downloads Apple Weather's attribution mark and legal link. Pro flights only, while online before take-off.
- Apple MapKit (optional satellite map): Map imagery tile requests for the area on screen, which follows the route and the plane's position. Only when the user picks 'Satellite' and has a connection; the default map is bundled and offline.
- Apple App Store (StoreKit 2): Product lookup, purchases, restore and the rating prompt, handled by Apple under the user's Apple Account.
Location
Best-accuracy GPS during a flight (in the foreground and background) for speed, altitude, heading and progress, and one reading at about 1 km accuracy for 'Airports near me'. Fixes are stored on the iPhone in the flight's track and log and are not sent to the studio or any third party. Exception to check: the optional satellite map loads Apple MapKit imagery for the area on screen.
Your location is used on your device. The app doesn’t send it to us.
Purchases
Purchases are made through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never see your payment card or Apple Account details. The app checks with Apple which purchases you made so it can unlock them.
Crash reports and statistics from Apple
If you agreed to share analytics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple gives us crash reports and statistics that don’t identify you. You can change this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. Apple’s handling of this data is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
Tracking and advertising
The app does not track you, as Apple defines tracking: it does not link information from the app with information from other companies’ apps, websites or data brokers. It shows no advertising.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
How long information is kept
Everything stays on the iPhone until the user deletes the app; discarding a flight before landing deletes it, but v0.3.0 has no way to delete a single flight from the log. The studio holds no copy. Apple keeps purchase records under its own terms.
Your choices and rights
- Deleting the app deletes the information it stores on your device.
- Depending on where you live (for example California and other US states), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We don’t sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- We will answer requests within the time the law requires and won’t treat you differently for asking.
Make a request on our data request page, or email support@koykstudio.com.
Security
We keep what the app handles to the minimum it needs and rely on the security built into iOS. No method is perfectly secure, but we take care to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s handling of information changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app.
