About Rockhounding Map
Which areas does it cover?
Right now, Oregon: gem, agate and jasper sites and gold placers from Oregon's Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) and the U.S. Geological Survey. The weather forecast covers the US only.
Can I collect at every site on the map?
Not necessarily. The sites come from historical mineral records that weren't checked in the field, and a listing doesn't mean collecting is allowed there. Check current rules, closures and mining claims with the land manager before you go, and get permission on private land. Stay out of old mine shafts, adits and pits. The app is a guide, not legal advice.
Does it work without a signal?
Yes. The terrain map, the sites, your finds and your spots are stored on your iPhone. The topo, satellite and land ownership layers and the weather forecast need a connection.
Is my location shared?
No. Your location is used on your iPhone to show sites near you and isn't sent to us. Forecasts and online map layers are requested from the National Weather Service, USGS and BLM for the place on screen, without any account or ID. You can use the map without allowing location at all.
Where does the site data come from?
Oregon DOGAMI's Mineral Information Layer for Oregon (MILO-4), the USGS Mineral Resources Data System, and BLM Surface Management Agency land data. The base map uses OpenStreetMap data. Every site shows its source, and the About tab lists them all.
A site is wrong or closed. How do I tell you?
Open the site and tap "Report a problem with this site". It starts an email with the site's name, ID and coordinates filled in. Corrections ship in data updates.
Purchases and your data
How do I cancel a subscription?
Apple manages subscriptions. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Choose the app and tap Cancel Subscription. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
I paid, but the app doesn’t show my purchase.
Use Restore Purchases in the app, signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy. If it still doesn’t appear, write to us with the date of the purchase (never send card details).
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles all payments, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue refunds ourselves, but we’re happy to help if something isn’t working.
How do I delete my data?
Deleting the app removes what it stores on your iPhone. The privacy policy explains anything that leaves your phone; for a request about that, use our data request page.
