Song ID FinderFind music in videos & mixes
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Song ID Finder (“the app”) does with information about you. It is written from how the app is built. koykstudio publishes the app; “we” and “us” below means koykstudio.
The short version
- We don’t receive personal information from the app. What you create in it stays on your device unless you choose to share it.
- You don’t need an account to use the app.
- The app shows no ads.
- The app does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- We don’t sell your personal information.
Who we are
Song ID Finder is made and published by koykstudio, an independent app studio. You can reach us at support@koykstudio.com.
What stays on your device
History (song, time, optional place), tracklists and fingerprints saved offline live in the app's App Group container on the iPhone. Videos and files the user picks are read on the device. A copy of a recording used for a tracklist is kept in the app until it has been fully analyzed. Live DJ-set audio is never saved.
- Microphone audio is turned into a ShazamKit signature (fingerprint) on the iPhone; the audio itself is not saved or sent.
- In live DJ-set mode the last 15 seconds are kept in a memory buffer to make signatures; the recording is never written to disk.
- Videos and audio files the user picks (Photos picker, Files, or the share extension) are read on the iPhone to make signatures. For a tracklist from a file, a copy is kept in the app's storage until the whole file has been analyzed, then deleted.
- History, tracklists, offline signatures and settings are stored in the app's App Group container on the iPhone, shared with the share extension and the widget.
- CSV and text exports are made on the iPhone and leave it only through the share sheet when the user chooses.
- The free-trial reminder is a local notification scheduled on the iPhone.
- Purchases and the free-trial status are checked on the iPhone with StoreKit 2; no receipt server.
Permissions the app asks for
iOS asks for your permission before the app can use these. You can change your answer at any time in the Settings app.
| Permission | What it’s used for | Needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone | Listens for a few seconds to identify a song, or keeps listening (up to 3 hours, also when the phone is locked) to build a DJ-set tracklist. Asked on the first tap. Files and videos can be identified without it. | Needed for the app’s main feature |
| Location (while using the app) | Remembers where each song was heard, in the history. Off by default; asked only when the user turns on 'Remember where I hear songs'. | Optional |
| Media & Apple Music | Saves the history or a tracklist as a playlist in the user's Apple Music library. Asked only at export time. | Optional |
| Photos | Finds the song in a video the user picks. Declared, but the app uses the system Photos picker, which normally doesn't ask for library access. | Optional |
| Notifications | One local reminder the day before a free trial turns into a paid year. Asked only when a trial starts. | Optional |
| Background audio and refresh | Audio: a DJ-set recording keeps listening while the phone is locked (iOS shows the microphone indicator). Fetch/processing: matches fingerprints saved offline once a connection is back. | Optional |
| App Group (entitlement) | Shares the history and settings between the app, the share extension and the widget, on the device. | Needed for the app’s main feature |
Information that leaves your device
The app does not send personal information to us. It doesn’t use analytics, advertising or crash-reporting services from other companies.
Services the app connects to
To work, the app requests information from these services. Like any internet request, each one reveals your device’s IP address to the service it contacts.
- Apple ShazamKit (Shazam catalog): Audio signatures (fingerprints, about 12 seconds each) from the microphone, from videos or files the user picks, and from DJ-set windows; returns the song's title, artist, artwork and Apple Music link. Raw audio is not sent.
- Apple Music artwork and links: Album artwork images are loaded from Apple's servers for results; 'Play in Apple Music' opens the Apple Music app or site.
- Apple MusicKit: When the user exports a playlist: the playlist name, description and song IDs, written to the user's own Apple Music library under their Apple Account.
- Apple Core Location geocoder (CLGeocoder): When 'Remember where I hear songs' is on: the coordinates of each identification, sent to Apple to get a place name.
- Apple App Store (StoreKit 2): Product lookup, purchases, trial eligibility, restore, subscription management and the rating prompt, handled by Apple.
Location
Off by default. When the user turns on 'Remember where I hear songs', the app takes one reading (about 100 m accuracy) per identification. Apple's geocoder turns it into a place name, and the coordinates and name are saved with the history on the iPhone. Nothing is sent to the studio.
Location information leaves your device only as described in this policy.
Purchases
Purchases are made through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never see your payment card or Apple Account details. The app checks with Apple which purchases you made so it can unlock them.
Crash reports and statistics from Apple
If you agreed to share analytics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple gives us crash reports and statistics that don’t identify you. You can change this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. Apple’s handling of this data is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
Tracking and advertising
The app does not track you, as Apple defines tracking: it does not link information from the app with information from other companies’ apps, websites or data brokers. It shows no advertising.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
How long information is kept
Stays on the iPhone until the user deletes items (swipe to delete history and pending songs, delete tracklists) or deletes the app. The studio keeps nothing. Apple's handling of ShazamKit signatures, geocoding requests and Apple Music playlists follows Apple's terms.
Your choices and rights
- Deleting the app deletes the information it stores on your device.
- Depending on where you live (for example California and other US states), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We don’t sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- We will answer requests within the time the law requires and won’t treat you differently for asking.
Make a request on our data request page, or email support@koykstudio.com.
Security
We keep what the app handles to the minimum it needs and rely on the security built into iOS. No method is perfectly secure, but we take care to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s handling of information changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app.
