Can the app read my Messages directly?
No. iPhone doesn't let any app read the Messages app. You make a screen recording or screenshots of the conversation, and Text Export rebuilds it. For WhatsApp, use WhatsApp's Export Chat and open the file in Text Export.
How do I get exact times for iMessage and SMS?
While you record, swipe left on the conversation now and then so Messages shows each message's time. Without that, times come from the date headings above the messages and are marked with "~", because a message was sent at or after that time.
Will a court accept the PDF?
The PDF is a record of the conversation as it appeared on screen, with a verification page that says how it was made. On its own it doesn't establish authenticity or admissibility, and the app doesn't give legal advice. Ask your lawyer what your court needs.
Does the app need access to my photo library?
No. You choose the recording or screenshots with the iPhone photo picker, and the app only sees what you choose.
Where are my conversations kept?
Only on your iPhone, in the app's own storage, protected by iOS data protection. Nothing is uploaded and there's no account. Like other app data, they're included in your iPhone backups if backups are on. Exports leave your iPhone only when you share, save or print them, and deleting a conversation deletes its files.
Which chat apps and languages does it read?
Messages (iMessage and SMS) and WhatsApp exports, plus other chat apps through screen recordings or screenshots. Text recognition reads English and Spanish.
Purchases and your data
How do I cancel a subscription?
Apple manages subscriptions. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Choose the app and tap Cancel Subscription. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
I paid, but the app doesn’t show my purchase.
Use Restore Purchases in the app, signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy. If it still doesn’t appear, write to us with the date of the purchase (never send card details).
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles all payments, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue refunds ourselves, but we’re happy to help if something isn’t working.
How do I delete my data?
Deleting the app removes what it stores on your iPhone. The privacy policy explains anything that leaves your phone; for a request about that, use our data request page.
