About the app

ISS Finder tells you when the International Space Station will be visible from where you are, and whether a pass is worth going outside for. Each pass gets a plain rating, Excellent, Good or Poor, based on how high and how bright it will be, and on whether the station is lit by the sun while your sky is dark.

Turn on alerts and your iPhone tells you ahead of a good pass, with where to look. A second “Look now” alert and a Lock Screen countdown can follow a minute before it appears. When it's time, Find it points an arrow at the station using the compass and motion sensors, or shows it over the camera view.

Passes are worked out on your iPhone from public orbital data, so alerts keep working without a connection. There's no account. If you'd rather not share your location, choose a place instead.

What it does

Features

  1. Live map

See where the station is right now, the path it's on, and the area it can be seen from. The map opens straight away, with nothing to set up.

  2. Visible passes, rated

Start time, direction, peak height, duration and brightness for each visible pass, with an Excellent, Good or Poor rating.

  3. Alerts before good passes

Get a notification 15, 10 or 5 minutes ahead, with where to look. Choose the lowest rating and height you care about, and add a “Look now” alert one minute before.

  4. Skip cloudy passes

Checks the cloud forecast for the time of each pass and skips the alert when the sky is likely to be covered.

  5. Find it in the sky

An arrow that points at the station during a pass, a camera view that shows where it is, and a red night mode that keeps your eyes used to the dark.

  6. More to look up for

See who's in space now, check whether a light you just saw was the station, follow China's Tiangong station and fresh Starlink satellite trains, and keep the next pass on a Home Screen widget.
