TV RemoteFor Roku TVs on your Wi-Fi
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what TV Remote (“the app”) does with information about you. It is written from how the app is built. koykstudio publishes the app; “we” and “us” below means koykstudio.
The short version
- Some information leaves your device so the app can work. The table below lists all of it, why, and who receives it.
- You don’t need an account to use the app.
- The app shows no ads.
- The app does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
- We don’t sell your personal information.
Who we are
TV Remote is made and published by koykstudio, an independent app studio. You can reach us at support@koykstudio.com.
What stays on your device
There are no photos, recordings or documents. Text you type for the TV goes straight to the TV and isn't stored; TV names and settings stay on the iPhone.
- Finding and controlling the TV happens on your Wi-Fi: the app scans the local network for Roku devices and sends commands straight to the TV (Roku's local control protocol over HTTP, port 8060).
- Saved TVs (name, model, serial number, last network address) and each TV's channel list are stored in the app's shared storage on the iPhone, so the Control Center buttons and Siri actions can reach the TV.
- Counters that decide when to show the Pro offer and the rating prompt are stored on the iPhone.
- The volume-button feature watches the iPhone's volume level while the remote is open; no audio is recorded.
- Text typed with the keyboard feature is sent straight to the TV over Wi-Fi and isn't stored.
Permissions the app asks for
iOS asks for your permission before the app can use these. You can change your answer at any time in the Settings app.
| Permission | What it’s used for | Needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Local Network | Find Roku TVs on your Wi-Fi and send them button presses. Asked when the app first looks for your TV. | Needed for the app’s main feature |
| Notifications | One reminder the day before a free trial ends. Asked only after you start a trial. | Optional |
| App Group (entitlement) | Shares saved TVs and Pro status between the app, its Control Center buttons and its Siri actions, on the iPhone. | Needed for the app’s main feature |
| Multicast networking (entitlement, planned) | Planned: faster TV discovery over SSDP once Apple grants the entitlement. Until then the app scans the local subnet. | Needed for the app’s main feature |
Information that leaves your device
| Information | Why | Who receives it | Linked to your identity? |
|---|---|---|---|

| Anonymous app user ID | App functionality (ties purchases to this install; generated by RevenueCat, not your name or Apple Account) | RevenueCat | No |
| Product interaction (usage events) | Analytics: whether TVs are found, first command and reconnect success, the blocked-control guide, Pro offer views and completed purchases | TelemetryDeck | No |
| Other diagnostic data | Analytics: app and iOS version, device model and locale sent with each event, plus the TV's brand name and Roku software version on some events | TelemetryDeck | No |
| Customer support (email address and message) | Answer your question. Only if you choose to email support from the app. | koykstudio (support email) | Yes |
We don’t use this information to identify you, and we don’t combine it with information from other companies.
Services the app connects to
To work, the app requests information from these services. Like any internet request, each one reveals your device’s IP address to the service it contacts.
- Your Roku TV (local network only): Button presses, typed text, channel launches and status requests (device info, channel list and icons). Stays on your Wi-Fi.
- Apple App Store (StoreKit): Purchases, restores and the free trial, handled by Apple with your Apple Account. Apple also shows the rating prompt.
- Apple Siri and Shortcuts: If you use a Siri phrase, Apple processes the request; the app only receives which action to run, such as the channel to open.
Companies that process information for us
- RevenueCat: Handles in-app purchases (StoreKit 2) and keeps Pro status in sync They receive: Anonymous app user ID, App Store transactions and product IDs, app and device details, and the IP address that comes with each request Their privacy policy
- TelemetryDeck: Privacy-focused usage analytics (no IDFA, no personal data) They receive: Named usage events with small parameters (TV brand name, Roku software version, Pro feature or package tapped), a hashed anonymous install identifier, app and iOS version, device model and locale. TelemetryDeck says IP addresses are not stored. Their privacy policy
Your local network
The app looks for devices on your local network (for example, the TV or the other phones it works with). It talks to them directly over your network; this traffic doesn’t go through us.
Purchases
Purchases are made through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never see your payment card or Apple Account details. To unlock what you bought, the app shares your purchase information and a random app user ID with RevenueCat, which manages purchases for us.
Crash reports and statistics from Apple
If you agreed to share analytics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple gives us crash reports and statistics that don’t identify you. You can change this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements. Apple’s handling of this data is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
Tracking and advertising
The app does not track you, as Apple defines tracking: it does not link information from the app with information from other companies’ apps, websites or data brokers. It shows no advertising.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
How long information is kept
Saved TVs and settings stay on the iPhone until you remove a TV or delete the app. RevenueCat keeps purchase records and TelemetryDeck keeps anonymous usage events under their own retention terms. The studio runs no server and keeps no copy; support emails are kept only as long as needed to answer.
Your choices and rights
- Deleting the app deletes the information it stores on your device.
- Depending on where you live (for example California and other US states), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We don’t sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- We will answer requests within the time the law requires and won’t treat you differently for asking.
Make a request on our data request page, or email support@koykstudio.com.
Security
We keep what the app handles to the minimum it needs and rely on the security built into iOS. No method is perfectly secure, but we take care to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s handling of information changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app.
